The science of inner wellness

Our scientific approach is based on many years of research into the area of intestinal health in collaboration with national and international research partners, hospitals and commercial partners in order to secure the beneficial effects of our products.

We focus on scientific evidence and powered clinical trials. Our first fermented seaweed and plant product is part of a randomized double-blinded matched cross trial performed clinical study in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and SpondyloArthritis patients in collaboration with Silkeborg Hospital. The study was started late December 2018.

FermBiotics has received an EU grant for a clinical intervention study in humans (N=100)  with metabolic syndrome/type2 diabetic and with BMI>32 in collaboration with University of Copenhagen. The study will start in Sep 2019.

Fermented seaweed and canola improves the gut barrier by positive modulation of the gut microflora and strengthening of the gut lining for a well-functioning gastrointestinal tract.

Gut microbiome modulation

The gut microbiome is the total number of microorganisms, bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and fungi, and their collective genetic material present in the gastrointestinal tract. Trillions of healthy bacteria live inside the human gastrointestinal tract. Gut bacteria and human-host interactions including effects on metabolism, immune, and neuroendocrine responses.

The gut bacteria plays an important role in nutrient and mineral absorption, synthesis of enzymes, vitamins and amino acids, and production of short-chain fatty acids. The fermentation byproducts acetate, propionate, and butyrate are important for gut health and provide energy for epithelial cells, enhance epithelial barrier integrity, and provide immunomodulation and protection against pathogens.

Gut microbiome has an important role in health and disease. One of the main roles of gut microbiome in mammals is that it guides the maturation and functioning of a host immune system.
